Is the Eurail Spain-Portugal Saverpass Good Value for Money?

This ticket costs $86 (64€) per day for the three day pass and gets steadily better value the more days you add. The ten day pass works out at $50 (37€) per day. The saver version works out at $76 (57€) and $44 (33€) per day.

A long journey in Spain (for example from Granada to Barcelona or Valencia to Santiago de Compostela) will cost about 50€-90€ ($65-$118). Prices in Portugal are similar to in Spain or a little cheaper. Note that these are the prices for very long journeys. The majority of your travel will cost less than this. To make ten journeys each costing more than 33€ in Spain and Portugal is difficult. Take a look at your itinerary and work out how much your most expensive journeys would normally cost: Spanish Train Times & Prices. Then buy the appropriate ticket with just enough days to cover your most expensive journeys and buy the rest of your tickets on the day.

You need to reserve your seat on Spanish trains, which adds to your travel costs. Reservations in other countries aren't always necessary but they are often advisable.

Note that not all routes will have direct trains and sometimes the bus will be quicker (and will almost always be cheaper). Occasionally the bus is about the same price as the train reservation! Read more on Advantages and Disadvantages of Train Travel in Spain.

To work out exactly how much your train tickets in Spain would cost if you bought them separately, see the Spanish Train Times & Prices and check the Movelia Web site to see if your journey might be better by bus. Bus journeys in Spain are almost always cheaper than the train and are occasionally quicker too.
