Is the Eurail Spain Pass Good Value for Money?
The ticket costs $78(60) per day of travel for first class travel and $60 (45) for second class travel, though adding additional days brings the cost down.
A long journey in Spain (for example from Granada to Barcelona or Valencia to Santiago de Compostela) will cost about 50-90 ($65-$118).
If you are considering the first class version, note that some trains in Spain don't have a first class car. Night trains have standard 'turista' cars and first-class sleeper cars, which cost extra. Also, remember that you have to pay more to reserve your seat (essential in Spain) when traveling first class (when there are meals included) - this will cost you 23 each time.
This is a good value pass if you plan on making just a few long distance journeys, but be careful about adding extra days just to cover your shorter journeys - it may be cheaper to buy them separately.
A popular route for tourists is the Madrid-Seville AVE express train which covers 535km in 2h30, costing 70 for second class and 105 for first class. If you are planning on taking this train, it is worth getting the pass.
