Lurking in the back streets of Barrio Gotico are dusty old stores hoarding some fine antiques, old books and curiosities. In particular, Carrer Banys Nous is as good a street as any in Barcelona to go treasure-hunting.
Begin at the Carrer Ferran end of Carrer de Banys Nous and there's Gemma Povo, an interesting shop specializing in wrought iron, with a superb collection of lamps and dealing in lamps, chairs and coffee tables.
Next up is Alberto Grasas, an antique shop with a fascinating store of furniture, paintings, bronze curios, clocks, silver and porcelain.
Juan Sanchez & Hijos at number 17 are all about Art Nouveau and Art Deco objects. Two other antique stores worth browsing are Baron Hermanos at 18, Tandem at 19, and Benet Rouse Valls at 22.
At 21, Olga de Sandoval Sarrias specializes in Catalan furniture and glassware from the 18th and 19th Centuries and Spanish ceramics.
