The Strait of Gibraltar is a stretch of water 14km wide, separating Europe from Africa and the Mediterranean with the Atlantic. Because of the different currents and the unique topography, dissolved nutrition from the deep Maditerranean waters comes to the surface. When it comes into sunlight, single-celled algae (Phytoplankton) develop, which form the basis of most marine food chains. And so there is food for whales and dolphins to exist in this area.
Whale and dolphin watching is possible in Tarifa, Algeciras, Gibraltar and La Linea. Prices are usually approximately 30 for a two-to-three hour round trip. Many promise that if you do not see any whales or dolphins on your trip, they will take you out for free the next day.
