Viña Rock 2013

When? May 2-4, 2013

Where? Has been at various venues in recent years, but is usually in Villarobledo.

What? Mega Spanish rock & pop festival. Though some acts may have received some coverage outside of Spain, this is very much a local festival for local people.

WOMAD Festival

When? May 9-12, 2013

Where? Cáceres, Extremadura (between Salamanca and Seville).

What? The Spanish leg of the world-famous world music festival. Featuring Femi Kuti, son of Fela Kuti.

Where? Barcelona

What? Excellent alternative music festival. Blur confirmed as headliners for 2013. Also has a number of Spanish acts.

Sonar Festival Barcelona

When? June 13-15, 2013

Where? Various locations in Barcelona.

What? 'Advanced Music and Multimedia Art', in the words of the organizers. You won't have heard of most of the acts, though Kraftwerk and Pet Shop Boys headline in 2013.

Where? Near Vitoria, Basque Country

What? Classic rock festival, featuring Twisted Sister, Status Quo, Mars Volta, Ozzy Osbourne, Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Darkness.

When? June 21-22, 2013

Where? Madrid

What? Eclectic music festival. Headliners in 2013 include The Fall, The Horrors and Spiritualized.

Rock in Rio

In 2013, Rock in Rio returns to Rio de Janeiro after a few years away and will no longer take place in Spain.

Benicassim International Festival 2013

When? July 18-21, 2013

Where? in the town of Benicassim, between Barcelona and Valencia.

What? Spain's biggest rock, pop and dance festival. An eclectic mix of generally quite mainstream acts (mainstream as in Arctic Monkeys, not mainstream as in Michael Bolton).

Bilbao Live Festival

When? July 11-13, 2013. Takes place at the same time as the nearby Pamplona Running of the Bulls. Combine the two events!

Where? Bilbao, Basque Country

What? Rock, pop and dance festival. Acts in 2013 include Depeche Mode, Editors, Biffy Clyro, Kings of Leon, Mark Lannegan Band, Klaxons, Green Day, Fatboy Slim and The Hives.
