Semana Santa in Spain: Seville

See below a rough outline for what to expect during Semana Santa in Seville. For exact details of where the processions will go, see the Semana Santa in Seville Itinerary for 2006 (it is unlikely to change much year to year). The word 'madrugada' means 'early hours of the morning) and indicates the itinerary for late Thursday/early Friday.

Domingo de Ramos - Jueves Santos (Sunday - Thursday)

There are between seven and nine processions each day starting from their respective churches at about 1pm and arriving throughout the day in the cathedral, the last one getting there at about 3am.

Viernes Santo (Friday)

Shortly after midnight, another wave of processions begin. They start arriving at the cathedral at about 5am, but some of them don't arrive until 2pm on Friday afternoon! Proceedings return to normal in the afternoon, with processions leaving at about 3pm and continuing until about 3am.

Saturday

A much quieter day, with only a few short processions, most starting in the evening (around 7pm and finishing at around 11pm or midnight.

Sunday

One procession, the most important one of the week, leaving shortly before 5am at the Santa Marina church, arriving at the cathedral at 2.30pm.
