Where Can I Find Good San Sebastian Tapas?

These are not San Sebastian tapas. They're pintxos

So you're coming to San Sebastian because you've heard it is Spain's gastronomical capital. And so you want to try San Sebastian tapas, right? Because San Sebastian is in Spain and the Spanish make tapas, so what's wrong with wanting to try San Sebastian tapas?

The truth is, if you ask for San Sebastian tapas, or where the nearest San Sebastian tapas bar is, you'll likely get some funny looks.

Because despite the fact Spain is now in a borderless Europe, where making such distinctions is antiquated and childish, many Basque insist on telling you they are not Spanish. Tapas are Spanish, in the Basque Country they serve you 'pintxos'.

It might sound petty to need to remember to say 'pintxos' in San Sebastian and not 'tapas', but when did nationalism have a sense of maturity?
