easyjet v Ryanair: ease of use

How easy is it to use the easyJet and Ryanair websites?

By , About.com Guide

See More About:
Ryanair and easyJet have vastly different booking processes. Which is easier? See below.

1. Screen One: Home Page

Ryanair: Here you fill in the fields you'd expect. Unfortunately, there is no option for "All London airports", so if you can fly from any of Luton, Stansted and Gatwick, you'll have to do this search three times. Irritating acceptance of terms and conditions, which you will have to accept again later in the booking. easyJet: Standard first page as well. The "all London airports option is welcome though!

2. Screen Two: Flight Select

Ryanair Ryanair offers you one day's flights, despite the fact you've selected 'flexible on dates'. You can see three days before and after as well, but you need to click on these. Ryanair gives you seven prices and the largest one is not the total. Even the 'total' is not the actual total, as you will have to pay more later.

easyJet Here you have 21 days to select from, ten days either side of your booking. The best price of the day is displayed prominently, but you'll need to click again to actually select your flight.

3. Screen 3: Passenger Details/Optional Extras

Ryanair Now it's time to fill in your passenger details, even though you don't know the final price yet. It also asks you if you want to check bags, insurance, SMS confirmation and if you want to buy a Ryanair bag. All fields are mandatory. If you don't want insurance, the site annoyingly asks you again, just in case you weren't aware of the difference between "yes" and "no".

easyJet Now easyJet offers you their optional extras. it has optional fields for insurance, medical assitance, luggage, speedy boarding, sports equip, carbon offsetting. Thankfully none of the fields are mandatory, though, like Ryanair, double checks you knew what you were doing when you clicked "no".

Ryanair now asks if you want car hire. Thankfully, there are no mandatory fields on this page.

easyJet offers you a hotel. Again, no mandatory field.

5. Screen 5: Contact Details and Payment/Car Hire

Ryanair now lets you pay. Go down and select type of card to check how much you'll actually pay. Happy with the price? If you are flying from London or another city with multiple airports, you'll have to do the whole booking process again. Other wise, fill in the other 15 fields and you're finished.

Except you've not finished, have you? There's plenty more things to do! See below...

easyJet is still offering you extras. This time it's car hire. At least there are no mandatory fields. Though we've still not paid, we have actually got to this screen a lot faster than if we had been using Ryanair.

6. Screen 6: Do Your Research/Check Out

Think you've finished booking with Ryanair? Even if you haven't had to go through the booking process two more times to check the other airport prices, you still have more to think about.

Do you really fly into the city you have paid to fly to? If you're flying to "Barcelona Girona", you're not. If you're flying to "Frankfurt Hahn", you really have a long way to go before you've got to your destination.

With easyJet, you may not have paid yet, but at least at this point you've seen your price. Log in or register here.

7. Screen 7: More to Remember/Pay

Assuming you don't have multiple airports to check up on, and you now know if you are flying to the airport you think you are, you're pretty much finished. Just don't forget to print off your boarding pass!

With easyJet, it's time to pay. You already know the price, you found out on screen 2 which airport was the quickest, you don't need to print anything to board the plane and you know you're flying to the city's main airport. Have a safe journey!
