What to Do in the Extremadura

Extremadura is popular with tourists - just not foreign ones. But with two excellent cities to visit, that's their loss!

Extremadura in a Week

There's no need to spend a whole week in Extremadura. Instead, use Extremadura as a stop-off point between Madrid and Andalusia. If you're coming from Madrid, quickly pass through Plascencia, before heading down the Via de la Plata (Silver Route), the old road that crosses the region from north to south. Spend a day in Caceres and then two days in Merida (note that many attractions in the city close early so no lie-ins!).

Finish off with a day in Zafra, before moving on to Andalusia.
