Leonese Restaurant in Madrid that serves free food!

About.com Rating three out of Five

By Damian Corrigan, About.com

The Bottom Line

A restaurant which harks back to days gone by when tapas was free all over the country. The emphasis is on quantity over quality, but that isn't to say the food can't be quite good at times.
Pros
  • The portions are big...
  • ...the beers are big...
  • ...and cheap....
  • ...and the portions come free with the beer...
  • ...what more could you want?!
Cons
  • The quality of the free food is a bit hit and miss
  • The food off the menus is quite expensive
  • The interior of the restaurant is a bit gloomy, best to sit outside....
  • ...if you can get any seats - the terraza is always full in summer time

Guide Review - Leonese Restaurant in Madrid that serves free food!

Just off c/San Bernardo is this popular Leonese restaurant, one of the last places in Madrid where you still get free tapas. It is a restaurant with few pretenses - you sit at the plastic tables outside and eat what is put in front of you.

With big jarras of beer (half liters), this is a good place to start your night out. The popular nightspots of Malasaña and Chueca are a ten minute walk away, so the location is ideal for Friday and Saturday nights.

The service is good and they usually have more than one type of free food on the go, so it is possible to make a request if you see someone eating something you'd prefer - just wait until the second round of drinks before you start being fussy!

A fine budget establishment that, if you aren't too picky about what you eat, will satisfy even the biggest hunger.
