Lavapies has a large immigrant community, particularly from north Africa. This has brought a number of Moroccan teahouses to the area. Sample the extensive menu of spiced teas or share a shisha pipe.

Useful Information About Lavapies' Moroccan Teahouses

If you're planning on visiting Morocco after Spain, don't think "I'll leave the Moroccan teahouses for when I get there". Moroccan teahouses in Spain are much better than in their home country. In Fez and Marrakech, you're only likely to be served tea with mint; the teahouses in Spain have much more extensive menus. Of course, this means that you're not really getting an 'authentic' experience. But who cares about authentic when it tastes this good!

The teahouses in Granada are even more grandiose than those in Madrid, with even more varieties of tea on offer, but they also tend to be a lot more expensive. I always feel like I'm in a bit of a DisneyWorld in a Granada teahouse. Less so in Madrid.
