La Rambla de Canaletes is what most people would call the start of the 'proper' Ramblas, though there is a section called La Rambla de Catalunya that runs north-west from Placa de Catalunya.

What to Do on La Rambla de Canaletes
La Rambla de Canaletes is named after the Font de Canaletes, which is found in this part of Las Ramblas. To the west are two important culture centers, the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona and the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona.
On La Rambla de Canaletes itself is a famous cocktail bar called Boadas, said to be the place where Havana cocktails and mixed alcohol drinks in general were first served, way back in 1933. The bar is still run by the same family that opened it more than 70 years ago.
The streets immediately to the west of La Rambla de Canaletes are host to some other great bars, my favorite being L'ovella Negra (La Oveja Negra in Spanish) on c/Sitges, a vast beer hall where the local youths drink.
On c/Bonsuccés is a World Music shop called Etnomusic 'Musicas del Mundo', an excellent shop selling music from all over the world as well as other ethical products.
