On this page is a comparison of the price of flights with easyJet and Ryanair for a family of six in Milan traveling for two weeks in August to Malaga.

For this price comparison I assumed the family would be willing to travel at any time in September 2009. The tickets were booked in mid-May 2009. The actual dates selected were for flights on September 9 and September 23.

The prices on this page take into account various changes in each airline's prices since last time I did a Ryanair v easyJet price comparison.

Ryanair & Easyjet Prices Compared

Read on for a breakdown of Ryanair and easyJet's costs for these flights or skip straight to the Ryanair v easyJet price comparison table. All prices listed are for six people.

  1. Itinerary Both flights depart from Milan - Ryanair's flight is from Orio del Serio, while easyJet flies from Malpensa. Both airlines fly to Malaga.
  2. Advertised Price The advertised price on the was 0.99€ each way per person, a total of 11.88€ for a round-trip for six people. The price of the easyJet flights was 28.99€€ for each flight to Malaga and 27.99 for each flight back with taxes and (some) charges included, working out to 341.88€ in total.
    Running total: Ryanair 11.88€ v easyJet 341.88€.
  3. Extra Taxes, Fees + Charges Ryanair's taxes, fees and charges come to 305.04€. easyJet include these in their advertised price.
    Running total: Ryanair 316.92€ v easyJet 341.88€.
  4. Hand Baggage Allowance easyJet has no restriction on weight for hand baggage. Ryanair's limit is 10kg.

Both Ryanair and easyJet have hand baggage size restrictions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm (21.6" x 15.7" x 7.8"). To make sure your luggage meets these standards, get one of these Carry-On Suitcases.

  5. Checked Luggage Allowance & Price Ryanair have a weight limit of 15kg for baggage checked into the hold. easyJet's limit is 20kg. Neither airline will increase your allowance if you pay for more bags, though easyJet will let you pay for excess kilos online.

The price to check in a bag is 10€ for Ryanair and 11€ for easyJet. But then there's the check-in fee...
    Running total: Ryanair 436.92€ v easyJet 473.88€.

  6. Check-in Ryanair charges 5GBP (per person, each way) to check in online with a bag. (If you check in at the airport that is an extra 5GBP). easyJet don't offer online check-in if you have luggage for the hold, but don't anything to check in anyway. I chose the online check-in to save money.
    Running total: Ryanair 496.92€ v easyJet 473.88€.
  7. Other added costs easyJet add travel insurance as standard. If you don't want it, you have to remove it, not once but twice.
  8. Credit/Debit Card Fee Neither airline charges for the use of an Electron card. easyJet adds a single 9.50€ for a credit card transaction or 4€ to use a debit card, while Ryanair adds 5€ per journey per passenger (60€ in total here) to use any card apart from Electron. Few people have an Electron card, so I have gone with the next cheapest option, the debit card.
    Running total: Ryanair 556.92€ v easyJet 477.88€.
  9. TOTAL: Ryanair 556.92€ v easyJet 477.88€.

  • Difference: Ryanair is 16.54% more expensive than easyJet for this vacation for six from Milan to Malaga.
  • Ryanair's final price is an incredible 4587.88% higher than their advertised price.

easyJet's final price is 39.78% higher than their advertised price.
