Flamenco Dancing in Spain

By , About.com Guide

Though a lot of people visiting Spain want to see 'flamenco dancing', flamenco is actually not a dance at all. Flamenco is a musical form that sometimes has dancing in it. The most authentic flamenco is when a singer and a guitarist spontaneously perform. If someone gets up to dance, that's an added bonus.

But if you're not too concerned about the authenticity and you want to see guaranteed flamenco dancing, you should go to one of the more elaborate shows at a venue known as a tablao . On this page you will find shows in Madrid, Seville and Barcelona that have guaranteed flamenco dancing.

See a full flamenco show complete with dancing at this very famous flamenco club in the center of Madrid (just off Gran Via).

I recommend taking the option without food. At 40 euros for the meal, you can get the same quality meal at half the price at any restaurant in the vicinity.

2. Seville Night Tour with Tablao Flamenco Show

A combined walking tour of Seville and a show complete with flamenco dancing - sounds pretty good to me. The meal is 'only' 25€, which is better than the Madrid option, but I still don't recommend taking it.

3. Private Jewish Quarter Walking Tour and Flamenco Show in Seville

Have a private guide show you around one of Seville's most characteristic barrios, before seeing a show in an old Jewish house.

The private guide makes this tour more expensive than other options, but the opportunity to shower your escort with all your flamenco questions make this an especially good tour for someone who is really interested in the art of flamenco.

4. Andalusian Dinner and Flamenco Show in Barcelona

This show is the only one on the list where you have no choice but to buy the food, and so it is the one I recommend the least. Still, if you really want to see flamenco dancing in Barcelona, this is as good a choice as any.
