Art in Madrid in February

PICASSO, LA COLECCIÓN DEL MUSEO NACIONAL PICASSO DE PARÍS

A large part of Picasso´s collection from Paris' Musée National Picasso will be on display in the Reina Sofia. The exhibition includes 140 paintings, 70 sculptures, 140 drawings, and many more studies and other works.

EL SIGLO XIX EN EL PRADO
Museo del Prado (Paseo del Prado, tel: 91 330 2900 u Banco de España (Line 2) until April 20
Taking over three rooms, this exhibition shows paintings and sculptures by over ten 19th century Spanish artists, from Goya to Mariano Fortuny. The artworks depict the influence of Golden-age painting, the foundation of the Prado Museum, Romanticism and more. All together there are over 100 pieces, which until 10 years ago, were kept in the Cason del Buen Retiro. It's free to the public and located in the new exhibition galleries.

MODIGLIANI AND HIS TIME
Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza (Paseo del Prado 8, tel: 91 369 0151 u Banco de España (Line 2) February 2 - May 18
The Museo Thyessen-Bornemisza´s exhibition analyzes of the work of Amedeo Modigliani, one of the great figures of 20th-century art, in this detailed exhibition which aims to examine his career from the time of his arrival in Paris in 1906 to his premature and impoverished death in 1920. His work is shown alongside the works of the masters who influenced him, including Paul Cézanne and Pablo Picasso as well as his follow-up artists including Marc Chagall and Moïse Kisling. PAUL GRAHAM: A SHIMMER OF POSSIBILITY
La Fabrica Galeria (C/Alemeda, 9 tel: 913 601 325 www.lafabricagaleria.com)
La Fabrica Galeria shows the work of British artist photographer Paul Graham for the first time in Spain. Graham is well-known for his documentary style.

February 15-17
MADRID INTERNATIONAL FASHION WEEK (SIMM)
Parque Ferial Juan Carlos 1 (www.simm.ifema.es)
The Juan Carlos I Exhibition Centre will host the International Fashion Week (SIMM), which is the most important female fashion exhibition in the country. SIMM will host all areas of the fashion industry, from everyday wear to sportswear. Catwalks flow with the latest fashions from up-and-coming as well as well-known designers. Cost is €30 (€15 if you register beforehand).

MEMORIA EN MADRID
Valdemorillo: Casa de la Cultura Giralt Laporta (C/ La Paz, s/n tel. 91 897 85 78) February 25 to March 11.
Comunidad de Madrid Archivo Fotográfico shows the city's photographic history from 1839 to 2000.
