Montjuic - A Day Trip from Barcelona

What to Do in Montjuic & How to Get There from Barcelona

By , About.com Guide

  • How to Get There from Barcelona:
    • Walk from Plaça d'Espanya (there is a metro stop there), up Avinguda de la Reina María Cristina, past La Font Magica and up the steep steps to the Palau Nacional. Walk around the museum and you're on Montjuic.
    • There is a funicular railway from Metro Parallel.

  • What to See:
    • The Museo Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in the Palau National.
    • The Poble Espanyol, a paradise for architecture fans with buildings from all over Spain.
    • The Fundació Joan Miró - everything you could ever want to know about Joan Miró, Barcelona's greatest artist of the twentieth century.
    • The Montjuic formula one circuit. The Spanish GP was held on the Montjuïc street circuit in the early 1970s. The final race was marred by an accident which killed five spectators. The Spanish government marked out the route in 2004, so you can see for yourself the track that Emerson Fittipaldi once thought was too dangerous to race on. The lap record is 1:23.8 – but I'm only telling you that for historical purposes, OK?
    • The Anella Olímpica, the concentration of buildings used for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
