- How to Get There from Barcelona:
- There is a train from Barcelona to Girona that takes 1h30 and costs under 7.
- Alternatively, if you plan on visiting Barcelona from the UK or Ireland and want to visit Girona (and the nearby towns of Olot, Figueres and the Roman ruins of Empuries), it makes sense to fly directly to Girona with Ryanair and spending a couple of days there before continuing to Barcelona. This is also a sensible option for those traveling from the US via the UK or Ireland. Read more on Budget Airlines that Fly to Spain.
- What to See:
- An attractive medieval city, sat on the side of a hill which makes the center very pleasant to wander around.
- The Cinema Museum, a prominent Jewish quarter and some Roman baths.
- Girona is also an ideal base for making trips to Olot and Figueres. Andorra might look closer to Girona than to Barcelona, but the roads from Girona to Andorra aren't great and it actually takes longer than going via Barcelona.
