Details of what I intend to carry and pack on my Camino de Santiago trek in March/April 2009.
Camino de Santiago - What I'll Be Carrying
Shoes, pants, boxer shorts, socks, T-shirt, cellphone, hat, sunglasses, Swiss army knife. Jacket if weather is cool.
Camino de Santiago - What Will Be in My Pack
This is what will be on my back for the entire Camino.
Bulky Items
- One change of clothes T-shirt, pants, boxer shorts, two changes of socks (in case one pair wears out).
- Fleece blanket and carry mat Lighter than a sleeping bag. One (or both) can be left behind if not needed.
- Netbook and cable I need to write up my adventures. Luddites will disapprove, as may my back, but I have little choice. It's a tiny Acer Aspire A150 120Gb
- Camera and charger If I can't take pictures, there's not much point in going!
Hygiene
- Two travel soaps - The kind you get at a hotel. One won't last the whole way.
- Hand wipes and hand-wash gel Might not need both.
- Small roll-on anti-perspirant So I don't scare the locals.
- Toothbrush and nearly-empty toothpaste tube Brush every day!
- Solution for handwashing clothes Just 50ml. I poured half the tube down the sink.
- Hand towel(?) I might leave this behind.
Medical
- Small supply of vitamin pills, caffeine tablets and anti-indigestion pills Not many of each, weight next to nothing.
- Two spare pairs of contact lenses and contact lense case 100ml bottle of contact lense solution I need to see!
- Vaseline Vaselining your feet is a good way to avoid blisters.
- Powdered sports drink A whole 500g! But the About.com Guide to Walking insisted I take it. It may be an extra half-kilo but it may save my health.
- Cramp pills Small and may keep me agony!
Other
- Passport Need to get home...
- Small compass Need to find Santiago!
- Mini playing cards Just in case.
- String You never know when you might need it.
- Camino book The smallest I could find. You can buy it here:
- Pen and pad of paper To write my notes as I go along.
- Five cereal bars Emergency breakfast rations.
