Montjuïc in Barcelona
Districts of Barcelona: Montjuïc

By , About.com Guide

Montjuïc is a hill/mountain that overlooks Barcelona.

Where is Montjuïc?

Montjuïc is a very large hill (some call it a mountain) immediately south of Parallel (the street) and Plaça Espanya. It is south-west of Las Ramblas and El Raval.

How to Get to Montjuïc

There are three main ways of getting to Montjuïc:
  • Walk from Plaça Espanya up to Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya.
  • Take the cable car from Barceloneta.
  • Take the Funicular railway from Parallel.

Once you get to Montjuïc, there is a second cable car that takes you to the castle at the top of the hill. However, it is a leisurely 20-minute to the top with nice views along the way.

What is on Montjuïc?

The highlights of Montjuïc are the Poble Espanyol, Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC), Fundació Joan Miró, Olympic Stadium, Castle and Military Museum and the magic fountains. On the walk down from the MNAC is the Caixa Forum.

Montjuïc used to also be the site of the Spanish Formula One Grand Prix.
