The week before Easter.
Why?:
Semana Santa, of course, probably the most important festival on the Spanish calendar. The Easter festivities are big all over Spain, but the biggest spectacle is in Seville.
Semana Santa is mainly a series of processions, beginning with Palm Sunday the week before Easter, followed by those on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Easter Monday is less important in Spain then in the US or the UK), though there are some interesting events, especially in Aviles (see below). - April 1 to April 8, 2012 Semana Santa completely dominates Spain in April, so no matter where you are, there'll be something to commemorate the Resurrection. - April 8, 2012 Every Easter Sunday, the town of Gaucin has a mini bull-run. Gaucin is near Malaga.
- April 8 - 9, 2012 Pastry festival in Aviles, in Asturias, held every Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
- April 9 - April 16, 2012 Spring festival in Murcia
- April 15 - 16, 2012 South Pop Festival alternative music festival in Seville.
- April 20 - May 6 2012 Festimad festival of 'musical biodiversity' in Madrid.
- April 23, 2012 - Sant Jordi festival, in Barcelona, a type of combined Valentines Day and celebration of the deaths of Cervantes and Shakespeare (who both died on the same day) as well as a celebration of St George's Day. Also celebrated in Caceres as the San Jorge Festival.
- April 24 - April 29, 2012 Feria de Sevilla. Food, drink, music and lots of dancing. Note: this year's bullfighting shows have been canceled due to lack of funds.
