  • The 'cazon en adobo' (dogfish in vinegar) comes highly recommended.
Guide Review - Traditional Fried Fish Restaurant in Cadiz
With old town Cadiz located where it is (at the end of a thin peninsula on the south coast of Spain) you'd guess that fish would be a speciality in Cadiz. Freideria Las Flores is renowned for serving the very best in fried fish, the traditional way fish is served in Cadiz and supposedly the origin of the famous British meal.

The interior of the restaurant is simple and functional, with a seating area where you can order your fish - that is presuming you have the faintest idea what you are ordering. Far better is to order takeaway. Stand at the counter and point to what you want. I asked for one of everything and get 14 pieces of fish (albeit small pieces) for under 6!

There is no accompaniment, something which is quite common with Spanish cuisine, but there is an excellent food market in the next square (Plaza Libertad) serving succellent fruit and vegetables at amazing prices.

Not even the bird pooping on my head outside while I was eating my fish could ruin things - this was Andalusian cuisine at its best.
