- The best fried fish money can buy - served in the traditional way
- Over a dozen types of fish
- Very cheap
- The option of eating in or taking away, with a nice square outside to eat in
- No fries! At least one way in which British Fish 'n' Chips has something over their Gaditano rivals
- Long siesta (16:30 - 20:30) during which time the bar stays open but the kitchen closes.
- Frideria Las Flores, Plaza Topete (also known as Plaza de los Flores).
- Excellent fried fish, the traditional dish of Cadiz.
- Medium-sized indoor restaurant area with terraza.
- Food can be ordered to go, served in a paper cone to be eaten in the plaza outside.
- Types of fish include dogfish, calamares, baby octopus, cuttlefish and fish roe.
- The 'cazon en adobo' (dogfish in vinegar) comes highly recommended.
The interior of the restaurant is simple and functional, with a seating area where you can order your fish - that is presuming you have the faintest idea what you are ordering. Far better is to order takeaway. Stand at the counter and point to what you want. I asked for one of everything and get 14 pieces of fish (albeit small pieces) for under 6!
There is no accompaniment, something which is quite common with Spanish cuisine, but there is an excellent food market in the next square (Plaza Libertad) serving succellent fruit and vegetables at amazing prices.
Not even the bird pooping on my head outside while I was eating my fish could ruin things - this was Andalusian cuisine at its best.
