LAS BRUJAS DE SALEM
Teatro Espanol (c/Principe 25, tel: 91 429 6297 Sevilla (Line 2)
A Spanish theatre adaptation of Arthur Miller’s 'The Crucible' hits the stage. This play is ostensibly about the Salem witch trials of the late 1600s, but is infused with themes of American politics from the middle of the 20th century. Come see who are really on trial, the witches or the communists.
July 4
TV ON THE RADIO

Ever hear a song and wonder why your friend raves about it only to find that after hearing it a few more times, you are just as obsessed? With one rave review after another, TV on the Radio has somewhat the same effect. Every time you pop 'Return to Cookie Mountain' into your player again, you notice new elements of the songs.

Some may say that Ricky Martin, who entered the music scene at age 11, has passed his prime on the stage, but none can deny that he is a crowd pleaser. This, his ‘Black and White Tour’ is set to hit almost every corner of Spain this summer.

The legendary Reverend Al Green, whose voice is full of heart and tenderness, brings his new release 'Everything’s OK' to Madrid. He has already had the honour of joining the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but he’s still enamouring audiences around the globe.

Grammy Award winner Steve Vai is coming to Madrid with not only an eclectic repertoire of songs, but also with an eclectic repertoire of instruments and talents. A guitarist, composer and record producer known for playing guitars with seven strings, three necks and many other quirky features, fan boy guitarists still regard the man as something of an axe god.

July 11
FRANK BLACK
Joy Eslava (c/Arenal 11, tel: 91 366 3733 Sol (Lines 1, 2 & 3) The influential frontman of alternative rock, Frank Black, is breaking away from the Pixies and going solo. With two albums released in 2007, 'Bluefinger' and 'Best of Frank Black 93-09' Black still has many scores to settle.

Complujazz annually brings together the most prestigious jazz musicians from across the globe. This year’s acts include Paula Bas and Vlady Bas Quartet, Miguel ¡ngel Chastang Quartet.

July 12

Vlady Bas has been one of the impetuses of jazz in Spain, and his daughter followed suit as a jazz singer. The father-daughter jazz team has toured many countries and performed at the most prestigious festivals. The second half of the concert features Conrad Herwig and Brian Lynch leading a jazz septet.

July 13/14
SUMMERCASE
Boadilla del Monte, Madrid (Cercanias Ligero Boadilla del Monte)
Following last year’s highly successful festival, featuring Daft Punk, New Order and Massive Attack, Summercase returns to offer a weekend of music easily accessible from the comfort of your own major Spanish city. The four-stage format returns, the artists playing both indoor and outdoor stages. This year’s line up sees an attempt to balance respected veterans with artists at the peak of their game. Acts include Jarvis Cocker, Arcade Fire, The Chemical Brothers, PJ Harvey, Mika, The Jesus and Mary Chain, DJ Shadow, 2manydjs, The Flaming Lips, Lily Allen, Air and Phoenix.

July 15
DOMINGOS DE C¡MARA. CONCIERTO N_ 6
Teatro Real (Pl. Oriente s/n, tel: 91 516 0660 Opera (Line 2)
Soloists from the Madrid Symphony Orchestra (OSM) will play the last cycle of ‘Domingos de C·mara’ at the Teatro Real. This programme will feature Sergei Prokofiev's Sonata for Two Violins in C Major, op. 56 and Mozart’s Serenata K 388 in C Minor from Silvestre Revueltas’ String Quartet.
