Visiting Spain in March 2013

By February 10, 2013

Follow me on:

With Easter coming early this year, as well as all the usual events that take place in the month, it's going to be a good March 2013 - are you joining us?

Semana Santa, Spain's longer version of Easter (it lasts over a week in some places), runs from around March 22 until March 31. Semana Santa in Spain is perhaps Spain's most famous festival internationally, but the emphasis on religion might not for everyone.

The event with the most widespread appeal in March in Las Fallas, which takes place in Valencia from March 15 until March 19. Las Fallas really has something for everyone - it's probably Spain's biggest street party, with daily firework displays twice a day, lots of food and drink and a religious aspect too for those who are interested.

Check out my list of Things to Do at Las Fallas for an idea of what to expect.

Las Fallas also appears in my list of the Best Parties in Spain

But maybe you can't think of anything worse than these big festivals? I can certainly empathise. The big crowds make getting around awkward and the cheaper hotel rooms all get filled out around these times. But there are still plenty of events going on in March in Spain that won't disrupt your trip.

As a big fan of craft beers, the most interesting event for me is the second ever Barcelona Beer Festival, which takes place from  March 8 to March 10. Barcelona is also home to the De Cajon Flamenco festival, which has a couple of concerts a week for most of March. The bullfighting season also begins this month.
