Air Traffic Control Strike in Spain

By , About.com GuideAugust 4, 2010

Follow me on:

A Spanish air traffic controller strike later this month is likely to cause massive disruption to visitors to Spain, after the union voted for a three-day stoppage starting on August 18*, according to this article: Spanish air traffic controllers plan three days of strikes in August.

Some airlines, including Ryanair, have called for the government to replace striking air traffic controllers with military personnel.

If you have flights due for these days, check your insurance policy (many don't cover strikes). If you can, consider traveling by train, bus or ferry instead.

*Latest: There are reports that the date of the strike has changed, while a Spanish bus company has also added to the problems. Read more here: Spanish Bus Strike

The air traffic people need explaining to them in very simple language. No Tourists No Money for the economy. Can you tell them. Someone needs to. Just be a little grateful to have a job at themomeny.
