My source in the UK air regulatory industry has passed on a message from someone who was involved in the ash cloud situation in Spain at the weekend. He says "it was entirely a business decision on Ryanair's part to cease all flights while others were still flying. There was no technical issue that he was aware of."
Ryanair canceled dozens, if not hundreds, of flights to Spain on Saturday, supposedly due to the ash cloud that hit 19 Spanish airports. But while other airlines only grounded planes flying to these 19 airports, Ryanair unilaterally decided to cancel all flights to Spain.
Read more on what happened, including a very mature response from Ryanair spokesman Stephen McNamara, and share your opinion here: Why Did Ryanair Cancel More Flights Than Anyone Else?
