European Commission to Investigate Ryanair

Ryanair's recent move to cancel tickets bought through third-party websites has sparked widespread condemnation from consumer groups throughout Europe - and the matter has now been raised with the European Commission, according to this article in the Irish Times.

But clearly the postal service in Ireland has some tough questions to answer, as Ryanair has claimed "We have not seen any correspondence from the commission," just like they said they had received 'no' complaints about their move to cancel third-party ticket sales.

The Commission's line of inquiry focuses on whether Ryanair needs to be compensating passengers more for the canceled tickets. Though the airline is refunding tickets, this doesn't help passengers who have booked hotels, tours, cars, etc for their vacation.

So if you can't compare prices on third-party sites, what's the best way to make sure you're getting the cheapest airfares? Well, you can still use a price comparison site for all the other airlines (you can Compare Prices on Flights to Spain right here) but you'll need to search Ryanair's own website to see how their fares compare. But wait! Getting Ryanair's cheapest fares is not as easy as it could be: read about How to Get the Cheapest Fares with Ryanair before you book.
