A new way of looking at the Guernica

Picasso's most famous painting, the Guernica, has been the subject of many a discussion among arty folks since its creation in 1937. The symbolic depiction of the Nazi bombing of the Baque town of Guernica has intrigued commentators since the painting was first unveiled. But this latest 'new way' of looking at the Guernica is something anyone appreciate - a new setting for the painting at its home in the Reina Sofia art gallery in Madrid.

Once the work has been completed, visitors will no longer have to approach the painting side on (something which I always thought distracted from its impact). The museum is also replacing the horrible yellow light that it is currently bathed in with clean white lighting.

The Reina Sofia is Madrid's premier modern art gallery and is my favorite of the three 'essential' Madrid art galleries. As well as housing Picasso's masterpiece, the Reina Sofia has a whole room dedicated to Salvador Dali and always has new and interesting short-term exhibitions to bring people back again and again.

Entry is free to the Reina Sofia on Sundays. You can also get into the museum using the Madrid Card.
