Salvador Dali in Figueres

Friday September 7, 2007
Salvador Dali, Catalonia's second most famous artist (he must have really hated Antoni Gaudi!), has a famous museum in his home town of Figueres, and I was there last month to see if it lives up to the hype.

It does. Filled with paintings, sculptures and other works by the eccentric Catalan, the Figueres Dali Museum is a visual feast for both casual fans and dyed-in-the-wool aficionados. Bring the kids too, no one is too young to enjoy this stuff.

Take a look at this page on the Dali Museum in Figueres, which has whole load of information about how to get to Figueres, guided tours and quite a few pictures of the museum, both inside and out.

Hi, I don’t know how Dali felt about Antoni Gaudi but I can imagine if they had met Gaudi might have found Dali difficult to get along with! Dali was a complex and controversial character. On Dalí’s personality, George Orwell once remarked that ‘one ought to be able to hold in one’s head simultaneously the two facts, that Dalí is a good draughtsman and a disgusting human being, the one does not invalidate or, in a sense, affect the other.’ Lol! Cheers,
