Free Things to Do in Madrid & Barcelona

Thursday July 12, 2007
"The best things in life are free," as a wise man once said (or was it Janet Jackson?) Whoever it was, they had a point, but there's a time and a place for gurgling babies and jumping in puddles - what you really want when you're on vacation is access to the best parks, museums and architecture. And they're never free, are they? Actually, they often are, as long as you pick the right day.

A large number of museums, palaces and other attractions in Spain are free for one day per week or month. Want to see Picasso's magnum opus, the Guernica, but don't want to fork out for the entrance fee? Then go down to the Reina Sofia museum on a Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning and it won't cost you a penny. Or how about walking around the crazy creations of Antoni Gaudi at Parc Guell? You can get in there for free seven days a week!

Click on the links below to find out about the very best free things to do in Barcelona and Madrid or read about Free Things to Do in Madrid & Barcelona, which has complete listings of free museums in Spain's two biggest cities.

If you can't coincide your visits to these attractions with the days they are free, you should perhaps invest in the Barcelona Card and the Madrid Card. (There's also a Seville Card and Zaragoza Card too).
