Spain in May

Tuesday May 1, 2007
The weather is getting a lot more consistent around here and people are beginning to talk about the summer, which can only mean one thing - May is here!

This is a great month to be in Spain. The weather is comfortably warm (as opposed to unbearably hot) throughout most of the country (perhaps not yet in Galicia) and there are plenty of events to seek out.

If you're spending the whole month here, you should start and end in Cordoba, with an excursion to Madrid somewhere in the middle. Why? Well, Cordoba has the Cruces de Mayo festival at the start of the month and the Cordoba festival at the end of the month. In the middle of the month is the San Isidro festival, Madrid's biggest party. San Isidro is also the best time to catch a bullfight in Madrid. Read more about Events & Festivals in Spain in May.

There's always plenty of concerts and exhibitions in Spain's two biggest cities. Read about May Events in Madrid and May Events in Barcelona to see if there's anything that takes your fancy while your here.

If music is your thing, check out the WOMAD festival in Cáceres and the Primavera festival in Barcelona, while the film festival season sees the Asian Film festival in Barcelona and the Comedy festival in Peñiscola. Sport fans should check out the Spanish Grand Prix, part of the world's greatest motor sport world championship, with defending champion Fernando Alonso hoping for victory in his home race. It's too late to get tickets, but if you're in the country (especially in his home town of Oviedo) be sure to watch the race in a bar full of Alonso supporters.
