Calling Home When in Spain

Thursday December 7, 2006
This week a new mobile phone operator was launched in Spain, aimed specifically at the large number of expats, tourists and other foreigners in Spain. Happy Móvil, from The Phone House makes bold claims about offering calls to the US, UK, Australia and most of Western Europe for under 6c per minute. Too good to be true?

Well, for a start, this is before tax. Secondly, there is a connection fee of 30c and that you are charged in 30 second increments. But other than that, yes, it does do exactly what it says on the tin. According to Happy Móvil's own publicity, the 5€ of credit which comes with the 10€ SIM will get you 71.5 minutes of call time to the US, the UK, Australia and many other companies. However, this is still not the cheapest option available for making international calls in Spain. Read my article on the subject to find out just what you are getting into with the various options on offer.
