The Rain in Spain
The perception of Spain having constant sunshine is not really accurate - as I keep telling my friends back home when I return with no suntan! In winter (and much of spring and autumn) the north of Spain has weather that would be familiar to someone from Seattle, while during my first six months in Madrid I was witness to some of the heaviest rain storms of my life (and I'm from England!). Normally you can depend on good weather in Andalusia in the summer but, as this picture shows, nothing is guaranteed.
Today's cloudbursts will have been welcomed by Spain's farmers and water companies, as the country has been suffering from a severe drought this year. South-east Spain has been warned that unless rainfall increases, restrictions on water use may come into effect in September.
It is worth checking the weather forecast at your destination before you pack your suitcase no matter where you are going in Spain. For general weather information in Spain and links to the weather at the moment in various cities in Spain, check out my page on Spanish weather.
