How to Avoid London When Flying from the US to Spain

Monday August 14, 2006
The UK has reduced its terror threat rating after last Thursday's arrests in London, but the threat remains at a 'severe' level. The UK Home Secretary, John Reid, has said that a terrorist attack is now "highly likely" but not "imminent".

A lot of people traveling from the United States to Spain have to pass through London, so the fact that the UK is still on alert will come as a worry to some. If you are scheduled to fly through the UK but feel uncomfortable about it, check with your airline - in the current circumstances they may be prepared to change your flight.

There are a number of airlines that offer direct flights to the Spain from the US, with most of them offering a choice between arriving in Barcelona or Madrid. See my page on Direct Flights from the US to Spain for more information on these flights.

Take into account that these flights are usually more expensive than taking a flight to the UK or Ireland and then taking a budget flight to Spain. This list of Budget Airlines that Fly to Spain should help you find a cheap flight to Spain from the rest of Europe. To get to Europe from the United States at a good price, Aer Lingus offers some very cheap flights to Dublin.
