The photograph I nearly got in a lot of trouble for

Sunday July 2, 2006
Here you can see some of the more unsavory characters on Las Ramblas in Barcelona. The crouching man is playin the 'cup and ball' game, with those around him working as his accomplices. They will each 'win' money off him by betting on where the ball is. But when a tourist puts their money in, the conman performs a sleight of hand and the tourist loses. I was threatened by one of the men for taking this photograph. As you can see, I've been spotted (the man is pointing at me), although ironically it was someone else's flash going off that alerted them to my presence - I had been secretly taking pictures of them without a flash for a few minutes already!
