Antoni Gaudi, more than just a builder of pointy churches

Friday June 30, 2006
Antoni Gaudi, the mastermind behind La Sagrada Familia, left his mark on much of Barcelona. As well as the world-famous basilica, he created lamps in Placa Reial, two buildings on Passeig de Gracia, the Palau Guell and, of course, Park Guell. Intended as a property development for Barcelona's wealthy citizens, the project was a financial failure, but the part that was completed is a stunning trip into the mind of a very wacky architect. With its winding ceramic bench, impressive viaduct, animal fountains and two fairytale-like houses, this park is a perfect companion excursion to La Sagrada Familia.

Check out my Park Guell picture gallery, followed by my two galleries of La Sagrada Familia, here and here.
